Last weekend I decided to forgo the camera and GoPro and just do a few days of diving. With the wind and rain for most of the week I wasn’t really predicting good visibility. On Saturday I went out with Cape Ann Divers. We dove the Burnham Rock and then decided to dive the Poling on the way back in. A lot of regulars were on the boat, including a group from the Metrowest Dive Club. Great charter. Conditions at Burnham Rock were surprisingly good. We had about 20-25ft of visibility and water temperatures were sitting around 43-44f degrees. On the Poling we had visibility closer to what I had actually expected for this weekend, it was probably less than 5ft. Still a good dive though.
On Sunday I had a scheduled charter with Matt on the Gauntlet for rebreather trimix training dives. We went back to the Poling. Conditions were actually much better than yesterday’s visibility. It was probably around 10-15ft (closer to 10ft). We opted to do one longer diver as opposed to two since the wind was supposed to pick up in the afternoon. Not too much else to report. Gilly was also diving with us for her MOD1 rEvo training. Her deepest dive on the rEvo thus far. Matt threw the usual assortment of boom drills, hypercapnia and hypoxia, and bottle passes at us. They all went fine but I was definitely not as fast or smooth as I hoped. You lose a lot of that muscle memory if you’re not constantly doing drills. I’ve got a bit more work to do to get my skills back to MOD1 levels of quickness..
