Weekend of diving in Picton, Ontario

Not even a week after returning from Malta I find myself on yet another dive trip to Canada. This weekend the destination is Picton, Ontario. It’s about an hour past Kingston, Ontario which is about an hour away from Alexandria Bay, New York on the St Lawrence River. I actually stopped in Kingston, Ontario on the way for dinner to visit some Canadian friends at the Kingston Brewing Company. Some of the same Canadian friends I was just diving with last week in Malta. They can’t seem to get rid…

Diving the Carl D. Bradley: Trip Report July 2024

In July 2024 after diving some wrecks in the 230-240ft range out of Harrisville, MI (I should really write a trip report for that too..) in Lake Huron I was lucky enough to be able to get some dives on the Carl D. Bradley with some good friends. The Carl D. Bradley is one of the deeper wrecks in Lake Michigan. She sits in approximately 360-370ft (~112m) at the stern and about 340-350ft (~106m) at the bow. There are obviously deeper wrecks in the Great Lakes such as the Edmund…

Gunilda and Judge Hart: Trip Report (Sept 2024)

Just returning from a 2400 mile road trip to Rossport, Ontario. I haven’t written that many trip reports this year although I’ve certainly done a lot of dive trips. 🙂 Although I’ve done a lot of diving in the Great Lakes I really think Lake Superior is my favorite lake, in particular the Gunilda and the Judge Heart wrecks. I really love seeing shipwrecks without zebra and quagga mussels. I cannot get enough of these shipwrecks although it is really honestly hard to pick a favorite. The wrecks in Isle…

Trip Report: Awesome Diving in Presque Isle, Michigan (Lake Huron)

It’s been a few years but I have finally gotten back up to Presque Isle, MI in Lake Huron. It’s been far too long! I realize that I just went on-and-on about how Isle Royale is some of the best diving in the Great Lakes but honestly so is Presque Isle. I would say Presque Isle diving in Lake Huron is just as good as Isle Royale diving, some may even like it better. I still like seeing the mussel-less shipwrecks in Lake Superior but Presque Isle is pretty extraordinary…

Trip Report: Diving Isle Royale National Park in Lake Superior

I wanted to get back to writing more trip reports or just about diving in general so I figured I would start with Isle Royale in Lake Superior. This was my 4th diving trip to Isle Royale. I first went in 2021, twice in 2022 and finally just finished up my most recent trip there the end of August 2023. I’m by no means an expert on the wrecks or the location but I honestly feel it is some of the best wreck diving in the Great Lakes. I could…

Trip report: World-class wreck diving in Presque Isle, MI with Shipwreck Explorers

Molly V

I will just start by saying it’s been a really busy summer and I haven’t updated this blog as much as I had hoped but I wanted to write a trip report as I just got back from 4 days of diving in Presque Isle, Michigan.  It was some of the best and well preserved wreck diving that I’ve ever done. Seriously the diving up in Presque Isle, MI and in Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary is so worth the trip that I’m already thinking of skipping a warm water vacation…

Brenton Reef Lightship (LV39) or bust with Daybreaker..

I had a great dive today on the Brenton Reef Lightship (LV39). Matt and Marissa nailed the shotline drop and we were right on it. Since Matt was having some slight technical difficulties I decided to join Josh and Nate on their dive.  Diving with them is always great because that means you’re almost guarantied entertainment and some good pictures especially with Nate 🙂  It’s like having your own personal photographer. Visibility was at least 25ft in some spots judging from horizontal distance from strobes. Brenton Reef Lightship (LV39) Max…

A weekend of tech diving: From Alma Holmes to the USS Bass

I had a great weekend of tech diving though I didn’t take a camera or GoPro since I just figured I would enjoy the dives without looking at life through a viewfinder.  The water temperatures are finally beginning to warm up into the 50s signaling to me that at least summer is finally here. On Saturday I went out with the Gauntlet (North Atlantic Dive Expeditions). It was literally a last minute split second decision since my car was loaded from the night before and I wanted to dive. I…
